About this deal

For the pro gamer and the novice, Samsung designs its latest Odyssey gaming monitor to transform your experience. Enter: the OLED G85SB. Crafted for maximum quality, the Neo Quantum Processor ensures crystal-clear imagery so that your favourite worlds, dungeons, and environments are rendered like never before. If that wasn’t enough, the 34-inch screen boasts a 0.1ms response time & 175hz refresh rate, so you can bid goodbye to buffering and say hello to near-instant reaction time. Other features include PiP/PbP, variable refresh rate (FreeSync Premium Pro, HDMI 2.1 VRR), CoreSync RGB lighting and HDR10+ Gaming support.

For the best HDR results on the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8, we recommend using the ‘Custom’ Picture Mode and making sure ‘Game Mode’ and ‘Peak Brightness’ options are enabled. ‘Game HDR’ should be disabled and ‘HDR10+ Gaming’ set to ‘Advanced.’

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 uses the same QD-OLED panel as the Dell AW3423DW/F, the MSI MEG 342C and the Philips 34M2C8600. The other difference is that by not having the GSYNC module the power consumption, especially in low power modes, ought to be a fair bit lower. The fact that this has an 1800R curve unlike Samsung's standard 1000R makes me pretty happy.

I spent some time exploring the Smart TV interface using familiar apps like Netflix and Disney+. The experience is no different from a television in that you can simply watch whatever content is available. The Samsung OLED G8 supports HDR10 and HDR10+ as well as premium audio formats like Dolby Atmos. An obvious comparison with the new Samsung G8QNB is the Alienware AW3423DW, the first commercially available QD-OLED monitor, that uses the same Samsung panel. A few things that could make a significant difference:For further visual immersion, the display is equipped with the Odyssey portfolio’s well-known CoreSync & Core Lighting+ which has been upgraded for the Odyssey OLED G8. Found on the rear of the monitor, this advanced lighting technology matches the colors on-screen, bringing content to life with bright and vivid colors that create more memorable, immersive experiences. Moreover, the Odyssey OLED G8 is equipped with Micro HDMI (2.1), Mini DP (1.4) and USB-C ports for versatile connectivity, in addition to a 5W stereo speaker for crisp sound. We uploaded the initial brightness measurements and uniformity photos for the Accelerated Longevity Test. This monitor shines on being a standalone entertainment streaming device. But it has some issues trying to act like a simple PC monitor. I'd get the Alienware versions. More information about all the features of this technology can be found in our previous article here.
