Controller grips provide some extra protection for your Touch controllers. The grips pictured above are by Kiwi and actually replace Touch controller’s battery cover, forming a shell that sits across the face of the controller. Not only does this give you added protection, but it also adds on grips straps akin to those on the Valve Index controllers, so you can keep your controllers attached without gripping them the entire time. Even though it’s now past its 10-year anniversary, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is still very much a game you should try in virtual reality. You’ll need to connect the Meta Quest 2 to a gaming PC or laptop, albeit not a hugely powerful one given the game’s age. And it’s not superbly optimized for cutting-edge VR use. However, Skyrim VR basically lets you step into a virtual country with a fantasy and Nordic flavor.
In terms of the VR experience, the Quest 2 comes very close to the Rift S, but with a much higher resolution (1,832 by 1,920 vs. 1,280 by 1,440). Its Snapdragon 865 processor is powerful enough that you can run plenty of games on the headset itself, like Beat Saber and Superhot VR. The Quest 2 runs into a performance wall when compared to Rift S' PC power, but again, that can be solved by buying an accessory cable.Difficult boss fights will undoubtedly drive you mad. Coming better prepared to a fight with improved gear and prevailing however is pure ecstasy. If you love the sweet torture of Soulsborne games, you’ll be playing Until You Fall. This might be the most unconventional accessory on the list, but a VR-ready PC is truly one of the best (and most expensive) Oculus Quest 2 accessories you can buy. A VR-ready PC will allow you to play PC VR content (like Half-Life: Alyx and Skyrim VR) on your Oculus Quest or Quest 2 via USB on Oculus Link or wirelessly using Air Link or Virtual Desktop ( head here to find out how). Oculus Quest 2 is one of the hottest VR headsets available on the market right now. Out of the box, it comes with everything you need to get started. While Skyrim is available on all manner of platforms, VR is arguably one of the newer and more interesting ways to experience the stellar open-world game. It also mixes up the playstyle of the game, with ‘realistic’ controls letting you slash away at draugrs and dragons by actually swinging your arm. And even with dated graphics by 2021 standards, there are still moments where Skyrim's art style and lighting present you with some beautiful vistas; perfect escapism from the rigors of real life. There is also mod support through the Steam Workshop, which adds yet another arrow into Skyrim's brimming quiver.
The Climb is a breathtaking experience both visually and physically. If you’re looking for a physically challenging escape from the dreariness of the real world, chalk your hands up and grab on tight to The Climb. The Oculus Touch controllers use one AA battery each, so if you use your Quest a lot, you’re going to go through batteries over time. To save some money long-term and help the environment, it is worth investing in some quality rechargeable AA batteries. Oculus is phasing out the Rift S and focusing entirely on the Quest platform going forward. You can still buy a Rift S, but you'll be unable to do so sometime next year. Oculus is putting all of its energy toward standalone VR headsets that, thanks to the Oculus Link cable, can also function like PC-tethered headsets for PC-based VR games.The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners strikes a balance of immersion and entertainment desperately missing from the Quest store right now. Next to the PC-exclusive Half-Life: Alyx, this is the best AAA VR campaign around. The first option is by AMVR, pictured above. I’ve got this stand myself and it’s a fantastic if you want something simple and inexpensive that blends in and matches the clean white aesthetic. The two arms that hold the Touch controllers are also optional, so if you’d rather remove them and have the controllers sitting upside down beside the Quest, that’s an option too.
